HIPEC

Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is a highly concentrated, heated chemotherapy treatment introduced directly into the peritoneal cavity following cyto-reductive surgery.

This type of operation has already proven its efficacy, especially in the treatment of mesothelioma and pseudomyxoma peritonei (rare tumours), but there are ongoing studies on the benefits and effectiveness of this therapy also for the treatment of tumours originating in the colon, stomach and ovaries.

Thanks to this therapy, it is now possible to treat patients who, until a few years ago, would have had no real chance of being cured, with remarkable results in terms of survival and improved quality of life.

PIPAC

PIPAC is a minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of patients with advanced peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) (1-3). The procedure is performed by administering aerosolised chemotherapy into the peritoneal cavity.

The procedure is performed laparoscopically and under general anaesthesia. Using open access or Veress needle, two trocars of 5 and 10-12 mm are inserted through the abdominal wall.
